urged by an unseen hand to turn around
i  find you in the crowd
and look straight into your eyes

do you see your past in mine?
all the losses you wish you could pluck from me one by one,
to reacquaint yourself  with what might have been?

or perhaps wanting to ask if  i  have saved your forgotten fragments?
forcing your longings upon my irises
pretending that they are mine,  too

i  don’t have to wonder what the future holds
for all that you might deny it
the love and joy of  a life well-lived resides within you

drowning out the cries of  passing sorrows,
unfulfilled desires and deserted dreams
you/i  will mend the breaks and flourish  ’til the end

“Old Man”   Neil Young

the post  “Speaking of  You as Me (or the opposite)”  by  David Marshall on his website  ‘Signals to Attend‘  was the inspiration for my poem.  i  hope it doesn’t disappoint  Mr. Marshall.   please follow the links to his blog and read the post in its entirety.   i  also felt the song  “Old Man”  by  Neil Young  was quite fitting.

“Old Man”   Neil Young

lyrics ~

Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there’s so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don’t get lost.
Like a coin that won’t get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that’s true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn’t mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I’ve been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I’m all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I’m a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that’s true.

Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I’m a lot like you were.

∙ɲ •Ω• ɳ∙ turn! turn! turn!

• Ω •

i always thought of  Time as my Friend
forgiving of  my vanity and
procrastinating nature ever
willing to provide me with another
opportunity and another

Ω

Spring rushed by in a blur
bright,  shiny,  new…   barely
time to register each wondrous
discovery before the
next bright,  shiny,  new…

Ω

Summer’s sultry disposition fit
perfectly with my imperfect
personality…   temptations  never
denied as my appetite for tasting all
life had to offer compelled me

Ω

Autumn was deceptive in
its seeming over-abundance when
in reality much that was sown was now
reaped whether i  desired or rued the
consequences of  my youthful choices

Ω

Winter is now upon me or so
i’m told by those who still
enjoy the lush fruits of  Summer but
in my own mind and heart ’tis
not true!  i feel no older than they do

Ω

Time is now my Enemy with
no compassion or enmity for it
cares not about me personally as i
matter not in the greater scope
of  things     …except to me
…except to me

{ in reality  i believe (hope) that i am in the autumn of  my life,  but it is a time of  regretting feckless decisions and opportunities not taken;  a time of  realizing that what remains of  my life is much less than what has passed;  a time of  facing my own mortality as inevitable.  i wish that i could say i am living life to its fullest for whatever time remains,  but that’s just not true…   maybe there will still be enough time… }

lyrics ~

To Everything (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
there is a season (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
And a time to every purpose,
under Heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
There is a season (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
And a time to every purpose,
under Heaven
A time to build up,a time to
break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to
gather stones together

To Everything (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
There is a season (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
And a time to every purpose,
under Heaven
A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To Everything (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
There is a season (Turn! Turn! Turn!)
And a time to every purpose,
under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace

I swear it’s not too late

“Life is Beautiful”    Vega 4

lyrics ~

Life is beautiful
We live until we die

When you run into my arms
We steal a perfect moment
Let the monsters see you smile
Let them see you smilling
Do I hold you too tightly?
When will the hurt kick in?

Life is beautiful, but it’s complicated
We barely make it
We don’t need to understand
There are miracles, miracles

Yeah, life is beautiful
Our hearts, they beat and break

When you run away from harm
Will you run back into my arms
Like you did when you were young?
Will you come back to me?
I will hold you tightly
When the hurting kicks in

Life is beautiful, but it’s complicated
We barely make it
We don’t need to understand
There are miracles, miracles

Stand where you are
We let all these moments pass us by

It’s amazing where I’m standing
There’s alot that we can give
This is ours just for the moment
There’s alot that we can give.

life’s too mysterious
