Joy Ann Jones
aka  Hedgewitch

i’m still celebrating the fifth anniversary of  my heart’s love songs and i decided to rerun the 2012 featured poet series  which spotlights sixty of  the most creative,  talented,  brilliant  {really!}  poets of  our time.  i have been fortunate over the five years to meet this amazing group of  people through twitter and their blogs.  not only are they writers who excite and enchant and entrance their readers,  they are,  one and all,  nice people who are supportive of  everyone in our online poetry community.  the “age of  technology”  has,  in fact,  facilitated the spread of  the ARTS! ~  poetry,  photography,  art,  prose,  music…   i have friends i have yet to meet face-to-face from all around the world.  day or night,  you can visit their blogs and be transported to another time or place or frame of  mind with just a few clicks of  a mouse.  i find it thrilling!  and i believe you will find it equally thrilling to discover their words.  i will be putting up these posts  to reacquaint you with old friends and introduce you to new ones.

just click on the  “Read More”  links on each poem to be taken to a new tab or window to read the rest of  the poem on the author’s blog.  if  you enjoy what you read,  please leave a comment on their blog to let them know.  { you don’t have to say you saw them here. }  i am truly honored that these wonderful people agreed to be featured on my blog ~  my gratitude to them all.

and thank you for coming to the celebration ~  enjoy!

Incubus II”    by   Joy Ann Jones/Hedgewitch

Tonight the incubus is in
a vile mood.
His pouts are puffs of sulphur
huffed on my walls,
leaving a yellow palled
skin of ill will;
his tail jerks and…..Read More

Vessel   by  Joy Ann Jones/Hedgewitch

When the moon
is winking
like the Grey Sisters’ eye
passed from housetop
to housetop, glassy bright
and wide as a fawn’s
I feel your touch
the wind in the night
cool on fever’s summer,
you who can kiss with…..Read More

Ritual    by  Joy Ann Jones/Hedgewitch

The drum is beating low
but constant like Leviathon’s heart
far up in the moonless basin
filled with the ocean of  night.

The flame flares with the ghosts of grasses
born on the banshee’s wind.
The bent man circles in his animal mask
rustling soft the rattle of bone.

In this black of smoke and flicker
his chant is a shine, his words…..Read More

Faerie Tales    by  Joy Ann Jones/Hedgewitch

Once upon a time
a nightingale
pressed her breast upon a thorn
trilled her last liquid song
to stain for a fool
one perfect rose red.

Once upon a time
a mermaid renounced her tail…..Read More

Raven and Stone    by  Joy Ann Jones/Hedgewitch

Artists: J. Gould and E. Gould; Lithographer: E. Gould

The raven holds
a found brightness in his claw
that his sharp beak
will never crack
yet he eyes it with
the very speaking soul
of possession,
one hunger set aside
while another feeds…..Read More
