featured poets
at my heart’s love songs

Becky  Brewster

i’m still celebrating the fifth anniversary of  my heart’s love songs  and,  in April,  {inter}National Poetry Month.   i thought it would be fitting to rerun the 2012 featured poet series  which spotlights sixty of  the most creative,  talented,  brilliant  {really!}  poets of  our time.  i have been fortunate over the five years to meet this amazing group of  people through twitter and their blogs.  not only are they writers who excite and enchant and entrance their readers,  they are,  one and all,  nice people who are supportive of  everyone in our online poetry community.  the “age of  technology”  has,  in fact,  facilitated the spread of  the ARTS! ~  poetry,  photography,  art,  prose,  music…   i have friends i have yet to meet face-to-face from all around the world.  day or night,  you can visit their blogs and be transported to another time or place or frame of  mind with just a few clicks of  a mouse.  i find it thrilling!  and i believe you will find it equally thrilling to discover their words.  i will be putting up these posts throughout the month of  April  (and probably into May)  to reacquaint you with old friends and introduce you to new ones.

just click on the  “Read More”  links on each poem to be taken to a new tab or window to read the rest of  the poem on the author’s blog.  if  you enjoy what you read,  please leave a comment on their blog to let them know.  { you don’t have to say you saw them here. }  i am truly honored that these wonderful people agreed to be featured on my blog ~  my gratitude to them all.

and thank you for coming to the celebration ~  enjoy!

Becky Leigh Brewster  { @beckybrewster1 }   holds a special place in my heart for a number of  reasons.  she was the first person i ever talked to on twitter,  the first friend i made on twitter,  the first writer i ever met.  through Becky,  i was introduced to and began following writers,  poets,  photographers and artists which led directly to me writing.  Becky is one of ~ if  not THE ~ most talented writers i know.  on her blog,   First Pages,  she writes about her life,  her family,  life in general,  families in general,  poetry and short stories.  her writing is always evocative ~ i am drawn in as though actually standing with her in her tales of  her life.  Becky’s poetry touches a place deep inside of  me;  some of  it is on the main page and some of  her earlier pieces are on the page titled  ‘Scattered Poetry…sorta’  HERE.  links to her short fiction can be found on another page HERE.  Becky also has an  Etsy shop  HERE  ~  i have one of  her paintings.  be sure to take a look around while you’re at her blog.  you’ll enjoy it,  i promise.  i am only sharing a bit of  Becky’s poetry here  but  her prose pieces are equally amazing.

just a tiny bit about Becky in  her own words ~

“I am learning and growing and evolving each day, that’s why we’re here.

I am brave, honest, real, fragile, and strong. I’m often scared, but I’ve realized that you have to be scared to be brave. I love so big that it sometimes hurts — I love anyway. I believe some of the most beautiful of things are born from pain, from angst… but especially from love, big scary love.”

Wandering…  alone”    by   Becky Leigh Brewster

Wandering… alone.

Walking through the thoughts that hold me together,

keep me connected to your soul,

tether me to a place that allows me to breathe.

I want to stay here.

I want to never leave.

I want to drown in this rising current.

I want to slip under the wave of emotions…..Read More

the poem i didn’t write   by   Becky Leigh Brewster

this is the poem i didn’t write.

it put me on a collision course with all the stones i threw.

it pushed me within inches of the blue part of the flame.

it made me hold my gaze so long my eyes burned.

it tied me to the tracks and walked slowly away.

it cut my anchor and left me drifting from the shore.

it opened the door and locked it as i passed through.

it cringed when i sang o…..Read More

Scream at me…   please.    by   Becky Leigh Brewster

Scream at me… please.

Break this silence wide open.

Don’t hold back.

Paint the canvas of hatred with your wailing.

Fill this space with your high-pitched shrieks.

“Stair poetry! I painted this on the stairs in my house!”

how  great is that!  she painted her stairs at home ~ she’s the coolest mom ever!

Becky has an  Etsy shop  HERE  ~  she paints and some of  the paintings  ( like the one i have )  have wire work on top of  the paint.  what’s extra cool is that she will customize the painting for you and you can have her add your own words,  phrase,  poem or song.  in some cases she can even customize the colors.  { personally,  i think she should charge a  LOT  more! }
