i  didn’t mean

to be gone so long

i’ve missed the light  fandango,

the music and my  friends

so please

save the last dance  for me

 and in the meantime . . .

enjoy the show

“A Whiter Shade of  Pale”

*light fandango ~ in 1967, Procol Harum released its hit song, “A Whiter Shade of Pale”, with lyrics by Keith Reid, that included a play on the phrase, “skip the light fandango” casting Milton’s light and nimble dancing in a modernist perspective.

lyrics ~

We skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels  ‘cross the floor
I was feeling kind of seasick
The crowd called out for more

And the room was hummin’  harder
As the ceiling flew away
And when we called out for another drink
But the waiter brought a tray

And so it was later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

She said: “There is no reason,
And the truth is plain to see.”
But as I wandered through my playin’  cards
And would not let her be

One of the sixteen vestal virgins
Who were leaving for the coast
And although my eyes were open
They might just as well been closed

And so it was later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale.

And so it was that later
As the miller told his tale
That her face at first just ghostly
Turned a whiter shade of pale

  1. can i have this dance then…

good to see you dani—and welcome back

    • thank you, brian! i’m not back-back yet (if you know what i mean) but at least i’m around. i would love to have the next dance with you {curtsies} ~ my fella just insisted that i save the last dance for him. {smile} i’m sorry i haven’t been visiting your blog ~ turns out that the last six months of thinking the vertigo was getting worse was really something else entirely exhibiting similar symptoms. now i’ve had the surgery and hope to be back to blog hopping by summer’s end. congratulations on the two year anniversary of dVerse! you have a lot to be proud of. i always appreciate seeing you!

  2. I love Mucha, as you know, and I am also a big fan of Joe Cocker!

    • i thought of you when i selected the Mucha artwork. not one i would normally use, but one of his most famous, to be sure. gotta love Joe Cocker. and i am THRILLED that you’re back blogging, Coal. working up my time online so hope to be by there real soon at http://coalblack.wordpress.com/ by the way, i’m almost finished reading “Night Blooms” ~ i wasn’t expecting so many tender love stories and am thoroughly enjoying it. my new copy of “Gemini/Scorpio/Capricorn” is due this week (though i have read it on ebook, i like paper books better) but i’m having trouble getting my granddaughter to give me back “My Mad Love” ~ she better not sneak it into her bag when they go to Hawaii! Love ya, SP! ♥

  3. Glad to see you back, Dani. You HAVE been missed.

    • oh, thank you, Mary! ♥ i really didn’t think anyone would notice my absence. i hope to be seeing you at Poetry Jam and Poets United in a few weeks. still not up to writing but definitely on the mend. thank you for your visit and friendship!

  4. Welcome back dani ~ good to see you again.
Looking forward to seeing more of your Lovely words ♥

    • thank you, Ainsley! ♥ as you know, i’m not really back to writing yet and just starting to dip my toes back into getting to read others again. i hope to see a lot of you.

  5. Lovely post. Two of my fave songs.
    Blog on …

  6. Hi Dani… your first post right away grabbed me. This is one of my favorite pieces of art ever… I’m a huge fan of Mucha. I also love Whiter Shade of Pale… the organ is just haunting and amazing. Cool stuff.

    • you will find Mucha fairly frequently scattered through my posts and i guess i’ve developed a style for my blog of artwork, poetry and music in almost every post. i’ll skip the poetry if i have to, but try to put together combinations that work. it makes me happy, anyway. thank you for stopping by, Mike. it’s nice to meet you.

  7. a great song, but I still like the original version best. :) hope your vertigo continues to improve, that can be very challenging, to say the least.

  8. This is beautiful! Glad to have you back, hope you’re doing really well by now!
