it’s not too late for Earth Day activities with your kids

Fun Earth Day Activity Ideas ~

  • There are fantastic suggestions for activities to do with your kids for Earth Day { and the day before }  from  About.Com Green Living   HERE   and   HERE.  there are too many great ideas for me to list.
  • Go Meatless!  Combine Meatless Monday with Earth Day for a healthy and environmental one-two punch!
  • Plant a tree — visit the   Arbor Day Foundation  site for more info.
    { ARBOR DAY IS  APRIL 26, 2013   find out more HERE }  or just plant something!
  • If you have kids,  print out a calendar and draw a green star for each day that you do an activity that helps the earth!
  • Plan an Earth Day party,  including games,  from  about.com
  • Get your green thumb dirty and start a garden.  Learn more at sites like  Garden Web.   Even one pot with herbs inside by a window or a container garden on your balcony.
  • While you’re at it,  start a compost pile too!   See  HowToCompost.Org  to start,  plus  8 crazy things  &   more things   you can compost  and  The Huffington Post  “Cheat Sheet”  guide for how to start composting .
  • Turn trash into treasure! Refurbish an old sofa, chair or even a garment.  Get crafty and creative,  and you just might produce a work of art.  Get some ideas here at RealSimple.com ~  101 New Uses for Everyday Things.
  • Park your car. Spend the day walking or biking to the places you need to go. If you’re heading somewhere that’s a bit far, try public transporation!
  • Green Spring Clean. Swap your bulbs for energy efficient CFL’s, clean your house with eco alternative products, upcycle and or donate unwanted clothing and household items, etc.  Use great environmentally safe and super effective cleaners of all types from lemons to vinegar to baking soda at Real Simple  HERE.  and  at  MarthaStewart.com  HERE.
  • Cook up a local, organic meal and serve up some organic cocktails!  Toast Mother Earth and yourself too
  • go on a picnic ~ See  The Nature Conservancy
