2012  featured poets
at my heart’s love songs

Kelli Simpson
aka  Mama Zen

i am pleased to be featuring some of  the most creative,  talented,  brilliant  {really!}  poets of  our time.  i have been fortunate over the past three and a half years to meet this amazing group of  people through twitter and their blogs.  not only are they writers who excite and enchant and entrance their readers,  they are,  one and all,  nice people who are supportive of  everyone in our online poetry community.  the “age of  technology”  has,  in fact,  facilitated the spread of  the ARTS! ~  poetry,  photography,  art,  prose,  music…   i have friends i have yet to meet face-to-face from all around the world.  day or night,  you can visit their blogs and be transported to another time or place or frame of  mind with just a few clicks of  a mouse.  i find it thrilling!  and i believe you will find it equally thrilling to discover their words

just click on the  “Read More”  links on each poem to be taken to a new tab or window to read the rest of  the poem on the author’s blog.  if  you enjoy what you read,  please leave a comment on their blog to let them know.  { you don’t have to say you saw them here. }  i am truly honored that these wonderful people agreed to be featured on my blog ~  my gratitude to them all.

and thank you for coming to our celebration ~  enjoy!

featured poet:

Kelli  Simpson
aka  Mama Zen

i haven’t even told Kelli about this,  but i had a dream that she was married to an automotive mechanic who looked like Sean Astin  { the actor who played the hobbit Sam in The Lord of  the Rings movie trilogy. }  when he finished repairing my car,  he invited me to his house for dinner which is when Kelli entered the dream.  i had brought along my 8-year-old daughter to play with Kelli’s daughter,  and  Kelli invited us to spend the night when the dinner party ran late.  i think the seeds of  my dream came from a post on Kelli’s blog  Motherhood After Dark  in which she mentioned reading  “The Hobbit”  with her eight-year-old daughter.  {my daughter is now ****y-years-old.}  {smile}

Kelli is better known in the poetry blogosphere as  Mama Zen.  she has two blogs,  the Zen of  Motherhood  and her poetry blog,   Motherhood After Dark  {another damn poetry blog.}  Kelli has a recently published book  ~  ‘Gemini/Scorpio/Capricorn: three American women poets’  by Shay Caroline Simmons,  Kelli Simpson and Joy Ann Jones ~  “A rippling triple vision through the heart’s crystal, both light and dark; riddles of needles and glass, demons and gypsies, love for men, love for other women, love for our children, love that damns and love that redeems, all of these motifs and more twine like scarlet threads through a little black dress in this triad of women building alternate universes with words”  available HERE.  there are two wonderful interviews detailing her writing background,  including her earlier years as a singer/songwriter  HERE at  imaginary garden with real toads   and   HERE  at  Poets United.

the word that first comes to mind when describing Kelli’s writing is  exquisite {and sometimes joyfully raunchy!}  i love Kelli’s poetry and i’m sure you will, too.
