let me tell you how much i love you
taste the honey of  truth on my lips
don’t believe what others say
you know i’ve always been maligned

let me touch your hand with mine
feel the truth running through me
don’t pay attention
to any discrepancies you may find

look deep into my eyes
see the truth dwelling there
don’t believe what’s in front of  you
choose instead to remain blind

hear only what you want to hear
recognize the truth in my words
don’t listen to the whispers
in the back of  your mind

breathe in my sincerity
discern the scent of  truth
don’t believe the odor of  betrayal
just leave it behind

i’m everything you’re looking for
  i’m everything you’ll ever need
if  i disappear tomorrow
you’ll miss my sweet little lies

“Little Lies”   Fleetwood Mac

lyrics ~

If I could turn the page
In time then I’d rearrange just a day or two
Close my, close my, close my eyes
.
But I couldn’t find a way
So I’ll settle for one day to believe in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
.
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet, little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
.
Although I’m not making plans
I hope that you understand there’s a reason why
Close your, close your, close your eyes
.
No more broken hearts
We’re better off apart, let’s give it a try
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
.
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet, little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
.
[Instrumental]
.
If I could turn the page
In time then I’d rearrange just a day or two
Close my, close my, close my eyes
.
But I couldn’t find a way
So I’ll settle for one day to believe in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
.
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
.
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can’t disguise
(You can’t disguise, no you can’t disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me, tell me lies)

  1. Love the song.. it reminds that sometimes the sweet little lies fall better on the ear than hard facts. And really, can love, lust, passion ever be entirely honest in the moment? I think you have explored a very complicated aspect of human communication here.

    • there are those little white lies meant to spare a loved one from being hurt and there are the lies we tell ourselves as well… so difficult to decipher “THE” truth. thank you for your visit and comment, Kerry! ♥

  2. Ahh… there are some lies which we know to be lies and yet… we’re so happy to hear them because they make us feel good. I agree with Kerry you covered a complex subject and made it seem almost preferable inside the sensual feel of lust…and then again, maybe it’s only 6:58 am and I have no idea what the heck I’m talking about…lol
    Great poem Dani.

    • i’ll tell you a secret… i was thinking of much more sinister intentions while writing, though agree it came out rather ambiguous. {smile} thanks for your visit and kind comment, Bren! ♥

  3. Sis! I came within an eyelash of using this very song to go with my post at Toads! The only reason I didn’t was cos I had resolved to make the post short and clean, just as a switch from my usual longer ones. I wanted sort of a Ferris Bueller effect of “are you still here? go write something!”

Your poem is perfect for the internet age. Some people are exactly who and what they seem, and others…are not. Like so many other wide eyed cyber bumpkins, I got burned real good a time or two before I wised up. Got to listen to those little warning bells, and not ignore them cos they ruin the mood! Loved this, sis, and I’m so glad you are part of FBF, and on the very day I posted it! Wowwwwww!

Call me, girl. Let’s yap today.

  4. i think sometimes we do want the lies…at least the lies over them being gone…but then again, trust for me becomes so much more important…

  5. Hi Dani….. I did indeed take it in a ‘sinister’ way as I read it. Deceitful lies of ‘love’ are among the most malicious. So many, unfortunately, also willingly fall prey. Your poem captured this not-so-uncommon situation well.

  6. Dani: Missed being able to come visit. Your poems are always a treat to read. I know small white lies that are meant to spare feelings are often just that. But this poem made me smile as when I was younger some man fed me a line that at the time I was “thrilled” with on a city bus. He said I reminded him of Mariel Hemmingway.. Wow, I thought. Mom brought me back to earth when I came home and called her. She told me straight, no way, but he will call you. Sure enough. He was a good talker, but… the lies were bigger than me looking like Mariel. I will always chuckle when I see her on tv. Sigh. Love the Fleetwood Mac song. Had not heard it in ages.

  7. I think we all need a few sweet little lies, once in a while…
    The truth can bite…
I like how you did this and I love the song ;D

  8. Oh I once knew a Master of Words who wooed me with such flowery verbosity that I refused to listen to my instincts – which were having panic attacks! – you have captured this so well in your poem.

Oh, yeah. Of course, now that I’m older, I can smell lies a mile away… but there was a time…. (Fleetwood Mac SO brings back my youth!)

i'd love to hear from you ♥ thanks! {comments must be approved before they are visible}
