“Louis Collins (Angels Laid Him Away)”   Mississippi John Hurt

oh,  what choices
did Louis Collins make
that got him shot
at such a young age?

oh,  what risks
did Louis Collins take
that caused two men
to fly into a killing rage?

what choices
could Louis Collins have made
to change the outcome
that fateful day?

what price
would Louis Collins have paid
to avoid being buried
six feet under the clay?

the angels laid him away
as his mama wept

the angels laid him away
and Louis Collins slept

This is great. I have never heard that song before but I really like it. I love music that tells a story like this. Your poem is great too.

  2. It IS sad sometimes to think about the choices people make at a young age that get themselves into predicaments that they can’t find a way out of…..! Your poem is testament to that fact.

  3. Helen

This is really unique…music + a great poem!!

  4. Very nice, Dani! Our lives are truly the sum of our decisions, both good and bad. Fantastic song by the way, love that very southern blues sound. :)

i'd love to hear from you ♥ thanks! {comments must be approved before they are visible}
