i’ve always been crazy
but don’t get me wrong
that don’t mean i’m lazy
i’m just singin’ my own song

the world’s out of  step
cuz it sure ain’t me
even though i’ve got the rep
it’s the only way i know how to be

i take three steps forward
and two goin’  back
it’s only afterward
i see i didn’t know jack

yeah,  i’ve always been crazy
but never insane
things just get a little hazy
when you can’t see  ’em plain

“I’ve Always Been Crazy”   Waylon Jennings

lyrics ~

I’ve always been crazy and the trouble that it’s put me through
I’ve been busted for things that I did, and I didn’t do
I can’t say Im proud of all of the things that Ive done
But I can say Ive never intentionally hurt anyone

I’ve always been different with one foot over the line
Winding up somewhere one step ahead or behind
It ain’t been so easy but I guess I shouldn’t complain
I’ve always been crazy but it’s kept me from going insane

Beautiful lady are you sure that you understand
The chances your taking loving a free living man
Are you really sure you really want what you see
Be careful of something that’s just what you want it to be

I’ve always been crazy but it’s kept me from going insane
Nobody knows if it’s something to bless or to blame
So far I ain’t found a rhyme or a reason to change
I’ve always been crazy but it’s kept me from going insane

  1. Loved the way you put this…….

  2. The rhythm of these stanzas gives a very authentic song-like feel to the whole. I could hear this being sung.

  3. Helen

Ms. Dani …. I am NOW ready to do the two-step, thank you very much. :)

  4. You jumped right into the country waters and splashed up a poem that could easily be lyrics for Waylon or Johnny or June!

  5. oh yeah, i love this one, too. sing it! sing it!
we don’t know jack, do we? we don’t.

  6. ha so lycial and fun…a little bit crazy but not insane….i think i just might be there myself…smiles.

  7. Where’s the music? This could be a song. :) Love it!

    • i was listening to Waylon while writing, so it’d probably go with the music to his song. {smile} thank you for your visit and kind comment, Susie! ♥

  8. As I read, I realized you have just penned a very Waylon Jennings-like song……add music and you’ve got a hit!

  9. Loved the playful rhyme and the refreshing honesty. Nicely done.

  10. “it’s only afterward
    i see i didn’t know jack”

Of course I had to nod and chuckle at this…so true. Well done, dani!
