Natasha Head

i am pleased to be featuring some of  the most creative,  talented,  brilliant  {really!}  poets of  our time.  i have been fortunate over the past two and a half years to meet this amazing group of  people through twitter and their blogs.  not only are they writers who excite and enchant and entrance their readers,  they are,  one and all,  nice people who are supportive of  everyone in our online poetry community.  the “age of  technology”  has,  in fact,  facilitated the spread of  the ARTS! ~  poetry,  photography,  art,  prose,  music…   i have friends i have yet to meet face-to-face from all around the world.  day or night,  you can visit their blogs and be transported to another time or place or frame of  mind with just a few clicks of  a mouse.  i find it thrilling!  and i believe you will find it equally thrilling to discover their words.

just click on the  “Read More”  links on each poem to be taken to a new tab or window to read the rest of  the poem on the author’s blog.  if  you enjoy what you read,  please leave a comment on their blog to let them know.  { you don’t have to say you saw them here. }  i am truly honored that these wonderful people agreed to be featured on my blog ~  my gratitude to them all.

Natasha Head
aka  Tashtoo

i met Natasha Head through the poetry blogosphere,  first discovering her amazing poetry at One Stop Poetry.  she lives  in Nova Scotia and is,  in her own words  “Daylighting Real Estate Agent ~ Moonlighting writer ~ Constant Poet.”  Natasha’s  wonderful blog is  The Tashtoo Parlour,  a site you could spend hours at.  in addition to her stunning poetry,  Natasha  { @Tashtoo on twitter } is also a talented artist  { Running With Crayons },  photographer  { Broadsides },  book reviewer { Blue Room Reviews } and has a published collection of  poetry  “Nothing Left to Lose”  ~  buy the  paperback  HERE  or  the  kindle edition  HERE.  Natasha is a recurring host of OpenLinkNight at  dVerse ~ Poets Pub.  she also has a zazzle  shop with items like t-shirts and prints  HERE.  her poem  Frozen  was featured by  The Academy of  American Poets.  click  HERE  for links to interviews and more sites where Natasha can be found.  we’re starting off  with a poem she graciously allowed me to post in full  “Were it Not for Gravity”  plus a selection of  poems to be found on her blog,  illustrated with her brilliant artwork.  enjoy!

“Were it Not for Gravity”    by   Natasha Head

She skips lightly through a puddle
giggles at her dancing reflection
warping her worth
like copper for pennies.

She dances through wildflowers
drunk on the aroma
of sun bleached wheat
too late to the harvest

She walks a fine line
between what is and what was
while visions of what will be
turns up in the cards
held by a small town carnival vendor
who doesn’t know the future
from his asshole
but can quote the scriptures
he breaks
with every flip of a card.

She laughs in the face of restrictions
defying odds
battling statistics
there was never any poetry
to be found in the numbers.

She hides from the facts
devours the fiction
and knows
were it not for gravity
she could fly.

Her Farewell Song”    by   Natasha Head

She is sprawled across hospital sheets
Her eyes are bright, but somehow wrong
From the bed her voice repeats
Please sing for me, my farewell song.
Her eyes are bright, but somehow wrong
Her gaze is glassy, her voice is dry
Please sing for me, my farewell song
Please sing again, before I die.
Her gaze is glassy, her voice is dry
She has not forgotten…..Read More

Forbidden   by   Natasha Head

The music is pounding, energy, movement, sweat
Bodies, thrashing, groping,
Mingled together, melted in fusion
The scent is seedy, hands not my own,
Reaching, grabbing, grasping
no barriers to mark my space
Torn and tangled, electric currents pulse
Torso to torso, the sway and the grind
A strangers smile, sly and stealing
Racing heart…..Read more

Magic Lays Me Down   by   Natasha Head

The path hides well among brambles dense
but you gently take my hand to guide me
on moonlit night with only stars to see
a universe revealed to me, smokey fire and incense
a wide open spirit must know no fence
if it is to drink of divinity
Root of ancient pine
bed of needles, sacred ground
magic lays me down
magic lays me down

You whispered wisdom, sec…..Read More

Sweet Michelle   by   Natasha Head

You would often hear the yells
That would come from Sweet Michelle
And they would make your knees go weak
As they filtered to the street
But you know better than to tell
Of this life lived by Sweet Michelle
For if her daddy could make her cry
You know he’s not the nicest guy
So up she came through this wicked life
Filled with sin, ungodly strife
But strength would…..Read More

Random and Unprompted”    by   Natasha Head

They tell me I need to do more with my life.
They tell me I need the big house, the flashy car, and then…
then I will be successful.

I tell them, I did all that
And you know where it got me?
Chased by the biggest dragons

I’ve yet to encounter upon this journey.
Firebreathing, doubting my worthiness
bouncing on the rubber

my life…..Read More
