“F”   Fireblossom

to celebrate {inter}national poetry month,  i am pleased to be featuring some of  the most creative,  talented,  brilliant  {really!}  poets of  our time.  i have been fortunate over the past two and a half years to meet this amazing group of  people through twitter and their blogs.  not only are they writers who excite and enchant and entrance their readers,  they are,  one and all,  nice people who are supportive of  everyone in our online poetry community.  the “age of  technology”  has,  in fact,  facilitated the spread of  the ARTS! ~  poetry,  photography,  art,  prose,  music…   i have friends i have yet to meet face-to-face from all around the world.  day or night,  you can visit their blogs and be transported to another time or place or frame of  mind with just a few clicks of  a mouse.  i find it thrilling!  and i believe you will find it equally thrilling to discover their words.

i will be putting up these posts throughout the month of  April to reacquaint you with old friends and introduce you to new ones.  in order to include as many poets as possible,  most posts will contain the work of  several poets,  with a short introduction to each one and a small sampling of their poetry.  i am participating in the  Blogging from A to Z Challenge April 2012  by featuring the poets in alphabetical order by first name MOST of  the time ~ there will be a few other groupings,  as well.

just click on the  “Read More”  links on each poem to be taken to a new tab or window to read the rest of  the poem on the author’s blog.  if  you enjoy what you read,  please leave a comment on their blog to let them know.  { you don’t have to say you saw them here. }  i am truly honored that these wonderful people agreed to be featured on my blog ~  my gratitude to them all.

and thank you for coming to our celebration ~  enjoy!

featured poet:   Fireblossom

i first met  Shay aka Fireblossom  through   One Stop Poetry.  her main blog is  SHAY’S WORD GARDEN.  this is what she says about herself  in her profile ~ “Girl detective. Hates haiku. Loves Laura Nyro.”   she writes absolutely stunning poetry and prose.  she has another blog    Night Blooms   where she writes short stories for a mature audience.   in her writing she is original,  bold,  rebellious,  romantic,  evocative,  provocative.  to put it simply,  she is an  AMAZING writer!  after reading Fireblossom’s poetry,  i  curl up in a ball sobbing because i will  NEVER  be able to come close to writing anything as exquisite,  imaginative,  enchanting,  terrifying,  powerful…    you’ll understand what i mean when you read her words.

there’s something else…  Fireblossom ”created”  Coal Black and gave her a blog    COAL BLACK’S HOUSE OF PAIN.  the story of  her creation is   HERE  and the featured poet post with a sample of  Coal’s poetry is  HERE.    there is also a blog   Objets D’art   which belongs to  Babs St. Argent  that is linked to from Shay’s Word Garden,  and rumor has it that Babs may be another of  Shay/Fireblossom’s  “creations.”  to be honest,  i’m a little unsure  who  is the creator and who the creations…..

Valentina”    by    Fireblossom

Valentina flubs her lines.

The little weasel director crawls out of the drain and
gives her shit for it.

And she knows–

The way that birds know north,

That the entire picture is shit,

That she shouldn’t be there,

But there are bills to pay

And so there she is.

That night, she strokes her lover’s r…..Read More

A Serengeti Gospel    by   Fireblossom

I was called by the matrilineal.

Already, from my grandmother, I had learned
that one who lies so still will not rise again
except in dreams;

From my aunt, I learned that laughter vexes
the devil. Her example came loudly and often,
delighting the child that I was;

And from my mother I learned that nothing is
safe, and not to trust love.

I wanted more. I longed to join the lionesses, and…..Read More

Fire   by   Fireblossom

I dreamed that I was drunk and 23–

You were there with me,

Wearing old jeans and a ponytail.

We had wrecked the fucking car–

Driven it into a tree, far down a side road.

You had said…..Read More

My Mad Love    by   Fireblossom

My mad love
makes it rain coffee indoors,
right into her cup
cos she say so and it do…

Cream rises
cos it likes her lips.
Hell yeah, Bo Peep,
me too.

My mad love…..Read More

The Succubus Athena”    by   Fireblossom

When I was young, and the world too loud
Too bright
My defenses thin as tissue paper
Ridden with nightmares
Blessed with visions
Hammered with practicalities
Shoved in a box,
Unfurling only in secret
After dark
Under covers like dense fog, and I the ground,

She came.

Her owl twisted…..Read More

Wonderful collection of my favorite online poet and friend’s amazing and original work, dani–every single one is priceless and exquisite and full of that Fireblossom flair that makes me also want to curl up under a rock and never even think of pretending I can write again. But in the end, I keep trying, because it’s actually more inspiring than it is terrifying to know that one woman can have this much talent. Thanks for featuring these.

  2. I love being featured here by my beloved Sista Poet! Thanks, SP!

And, shhhh…Babs doesn’t know she is just a character!

  3. Yup, Fireblossom is indeed one of my favorites too. What a talent!! What a poet.

  4. Thanks for sharing this talented soul!
She drives us into uncharted waters and allows
    our souls to breath

  5. I forgot to say…I LOVE that you included The Succubus Athena!
