• ϔ •

my muse got angry with me for ‘being ungrateful’ ~ yelling out as he left “let’s see you write without me!”  at school they taught me the words would always flow like a river if i stayed curious.  i guess i’ll find out.

• ϔ •

does inspiration

to write come from your heart?  or

do you need a muse?

has anyone seen my muse?

he disappears for days at a time
doesn’t call to say he’s okay
or when he’ll be home

i know he’s out painting the town red
’cause he drips paint all over the floor

 ϔ

when he does show up
it’s like a kamikaze attack ~
only it’s my suicide he plans
never his, oh no!

 ϔ

i’ll sit at the keyboard
silently begging him to appear
but the silence only deepens

he won’t come when i ask

 ϔ

he waits until i’m almost asleep
or driving down the freeway
or in the shower
with shampoo in my eyes

 ϔ

then he demands attention

immediately!

“write the words down now!
 or i’ll take them away!”

never to be remembered again

 ϔ

it might be easier to take
if  he was off  helping others
but that’s not his style

he meets a friend of  mine’s muse
 at bars and whorehouses
committing acts of  debauchery

while i sit alone with my laptop
trying too hard
to be wild or witty

but without him

  1. A nice haiku.
    Is your muse your heart?

    • i think sometimes it is but there are times when a poem comes to me whole and i merely record it ~ those times i think it’s outside of me. {smile} how about you? thank you for your visit and kind comment.

  2. now your muse seems to have an interesting personality dani…painting the town red…i like…and think you should join him rather than sitting on the laptop…sounds like a lot of fun…and later when you’re together in the bars and whorehouses you can still ask him what to write…smiles

  3. My muse stays in my heart…………………

    hugs xo

    • that’s where a muse should be, don’t you think? your writing is so beautiful that it feels like every word is from your heart. ♥ *hugs* ♥

  4. Leo

I’ve seen your muse on song a lot of times, Dani :) he seems to be in this post too. So not far away.. and a muse is always “from your heart” itself, I think. :)

    • aawww! thank you, Leo! i know my words come from my heart but sometimes a poem comes whole into my head that feels like it’s from outside. ♥ i may not be able to post every day for The Height of Haiku Challenge, but i’ll be around. thank you for hosting!

  5. Dani….
Since this ‘Badge’ is staring me in the face I’ll just simply agree and confirm that you DO indeed Write Like A Motherfucker!!
    Loved your (55) My Friend.
Thanks for including me in your Talent Bin, and have a Kick Ass Week-End

  6. I love this, Dani. Our muses hold us captive, abuse us, yet we keep begging them to come back to us. I never thought of mine as male…or as female, for that matter. But when I have a little dog curled up at my side, it seems to go best. (My dogs are neutered/spayed).

    • that’s so sweet about your dogs, Victoria! ♥ i don’t know why i feel like my muse is male ~ i just know he doesn’t show up very often anymore. {smile} thank you for the Monday Morning Writing Prompt and your kind comment.

  7. Oh my gosh, girl, you ran out mid-sentence! And isn’t it the truth, inspiration always comes at those inconvenient times you mentioned.

As for a muse, I’ve always felt I needed one. (A human one). I write much better when I write for that audience of one.

  8. Very clever, dani!!!!

    I agree with:
he waits until I’m almost asleep
    or driving down the freeway
    or in the shower
    with shampoo in my eyes

  9. I don’t have a muse, but I wonder if I’d write more if I did… guess I’ll find out if I ever find one, yes?

    • i feel it is my muse at work when a poem comes to me whole and i really do have to rush to record it before the words are gone. when that happens, i rarely change a word. ♥ i love your haiku, Jenn, so if you don’t have a muse then i’m guessing your words come from your heart. ♥

  10. Muses love being missed, it is a hide and seek game they have played for generations. I am sure he was cackling away. Now, I leave my lady flowers, water, food, anything she likes and tell her how I cherish her, so she tends to hang around a bit longer now :)
    Nice one, enjoy gooseberry day!!!

  11. you are amazing, very beautiful word play.
    :)

  12. Awesome write my friend! I think your muse is related to mine because I know the feelings behind your poem well!

    • i think there’s a large clan of muses who delight in taking off when they’re most needed. {smile} thank you for your visit and kind comment.

  13. I say it comes from the heart! Love this write! The picture is great, too!

    My entry: http://charleslmashburn.wordpress.com/2011/09/04/blood-on-the-moon-2/

    • thank you, Charles. the image was part of the Theme Thursday prompt. some of my writing comes from my heart, i know because i feel it flowing out. some seems to come from outside and i think that’s my muse. {smile}

  14. LOL. The muse does show up at the worst times. I notice you contribute to a lot of poetry sites. Maybe, she’s just tired.

  15. Very clever, enjoyable to read.

  16. very nice … muse on the loose

  17. Great poems, both parts 2 and 1. :) When inspiration takes a break, it’s like swimming through molasses to get anything written.

i'd love to hear from you ♥ thanks! {comments must be approved before they are visible}
