“Summertime”   Janis Joplin ~ Big Brother & The Holding Company

lyrics ~

Summertime,
Child, your living’s easy.
Fish are, fish are jumping out
And the cotton, Lord,
Cotton’s high, Lord so high.

Your dad’s rich
And your ma is so good-looking, baby.
She’s a-looking pretty fine to me now,
Hush, baby, baby, baby, baby now,
No, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Don’t you cry, don’t you cry.

One of these mornings
You’re gonna rise, rise up singing,
You’re gonna spread your wings, child,
And take, take to the sky,
Lord, the sky.

But until that morning,
Honey, n-n-nothing’s going to harm ya,
No, no, no no, no no, no…
Don’t you cry — cry.

  1. “Summertime” may have been written by the Gershwins, but Janis owns it. One of my favorite song ever, by a completely unique singer. She would have been lost in the 70s, had she lived. What would she have sung…disco Ball & Chain? I dun think so!

    • i hadn’t ever thought about if she had lived in the 70s ~ i can’t imagine it. i’ve done several posts on her as she touches a special place in me ~ as much for her vulnerability as for her singing. i could listen to nothing but Janis. {smile} ♥

  2. Nice painting…..you always choose such lovely artwork to go with your words.
    Janis Joplin was special!

    • thank you! ♥ i’ve found a number of sources for art and photographs which are available for public use over the past few months, most notably Wikimedia Commons. this is at least the third time that i’ve included a music video of Janis singing “Summertime” in a post ~ there’s nobody like her. i appreciate your visit and sweet comment. ♥

i'd love to hear from you ♥ thanks! {comments must be approved before they are visible}
