floating

in the midst

of

unfulfilled

dreams

and dashed

hopes

is that all there is?

wasn’t there

supposed

to be more?

not a chance

they told me

don’t even bother

and

fool

that i am

i listened

missed opportunities

so apropos

i certainly

miss

not having taken them

when i had

the opportunity

too late now

i’m out of  time

looking  back

at a life of

unfulfilled dreams

and

dashed hopes

is that all there is?

wasn’t there

supposed

to be more?

  1. if there is more, you wont find it waiting or worrying about missed opportunities, but in the ones you do take going forward…nice contemplative piece…

    • thanks, Brian. i don’t really feel that way about my life…. i’ve been blessed with love and family and that’s what i treasure.

  2. Nice post… we certainly don’t want to miss it ~

There is always more…talent breeds future—you have talent—it is automatic

    • thank you, Jaye! that’s very kind of you. this poem was just in response to the prompt ~ i have love and a family whom i cherish. no major regrets. {smile}

  4. Very vivid imagery of someone who lives with many regrets about a past with so many missed chances. Glad to see that it isn’t about you!
Thanks for visiting me and the lovely comments.

    • thank you! i’m sorry i comment so seldom ~ i’ve been having trouble with my laptop for ages and sometimes can’t even get a post out. fortunately, this poem has no connection to my real life.

  5. Dwelling…it can be a dangerous thing! Reflection gone amuck – near the end, it is easy to be caught in the bad, the regrets, the missed opportunities…but if only one could open their eyes to all they *had* done…

    • that’s very true, Chris. we sometimes don’t appreciate the “good” in our lives. focusing on the negatives doesn’t help.

  6. Lovely poem – reat flow.g

  7. love it,
    your creativity is admirable.

    :)

  8. I have felt like this so many times, you really capture desperation and discontent, beautiful and silky flow

    • thank you! the first stanza came immediately from the Magpie image prompt. the rest was a struggle and i almost didn’t post it, so i appreciate your kindness. ♥

I guess if that’s all there is then we better just keep dancing and never stop…
Thanks Dani for your support each week
