¡defiant!

“Not Afraid”   Eminem

.

.

defiant!

doesn’t mean

i’m not afraid

but

fuck my fears!

i’m gonna live

create

write

sing

dance

get the demons out

any way i can

.

.

.

defiant!

doesn’t mean

i’m not afraid

but

fuck my fears!

i’m gonna keep tryin’

to be aware

to pay attention

to really care

to give my all

chase the demons away

with kindness

.

.

defiant!

doesn’t mean

i’m not afraid

but

fuck my fears!

i’m not alone

if  i fall down

there’s a hand

reaching out

to help me up

beat the demons off

push ’em away

.

.

.

defiant!

doesn’t mean

i’m not afraid

but

fuck my fears!

i’m still here

i’ve had enough

of  giving in to my fears

sabotaging myself

gonna make a change

ignore the demons

turn my back

and walk away

into my future

defiant!

i recommend listening to the song while reading the poem as i was listening to it as i wrote. i don’t know much about Eminem’s work, but my muse led me to this song and i feel it fits in perfectly with the feeling of  my poem and ~ maybe ~ relates to how a graffiti artist feels at times, i don’t know.

    • aawww! you’re biased, bunny, but thank you. ♥ i had no familiarity with this song. my muse had already grabbed me with defiant! and then Eminem popped into my mind ~ it had to be my muse. the song was exactly what i wanted. love you, bestie! ♥

  1. that may be the strongest words i have heard you use…smiles. while i dont agree with all his stances, i listen to eminem when i write because he does some great things with words and catches quite the cypher…

    • yeah, i’ve had to make the decision a few times about either the hate language used in the song or the artists personal behavior and beliefs versus their art. i have never, that i can remember, listened to an Eminem song of my own volition before. my muse led me straight to this one. as far as my words ~ if i feel ’em, i use ’em. {smile} f *ck happens to be my favorite word. {and you listening to Eminem while you write makes complete sense to me based on the feel and/or rhythm of some of your writing.}

  2. Demons are our deepest fears we conjure. Befriending and acceptance our demons sets us free! I like this post Dani! Thanks and well done! :)

  3. Goes so well with the music and the pictures are like an accent.
The writing is strong and emotional
    Great work

  4. I love the way you started and ended with “defiant.” It lent a strength to the poem. I can hear this one being read aloud. Great job.

i'd love to hear from you ♥ thanks! {comments must be approved before they are visible}
