featured poet of the day ~ Tina Nguyen

.
Christina (Tina) Nguyen is another poet i met on twitter  {  @TinaNguyen  } ~  she is a STUNNING poet and one of  the sweetest women i know. she was instrumental in encouraging me with my writing. {thank you, Tina!}  she does a lot for the poetry community on twitter in addition to always supporting other poets with her recognition and kind comments.  she started the hashmark .  #GPoem  .  on twitter and provides a weekly word prompt for people to tweet .  gogyohka  .   some of which she reprints on her blog  .  A wish for the sky…   .  she also hosts gogyohka “parties”  .  #gogparty  on occasion where anyone can join in on twitter during the same time and tweet gogyohka. Tina does not limit herself  to writing only gogyohka and writes some of  the best micropoetry i’ve ever seen. if  you like poetry, be sure to follow her on twitter.

Here’s what Tina says about herself  on her blog profile:
.
“To some, I’m Tina. To others, Christina. Whatever the name, I’m a writer and poet living in Minnesota. I focus on moments. Gogyohka/tanka and haiku are my favorite poetry forms, but I dabble in others as well.”

Tina is “sponsoring” {for lack of  better word} writing five-line poetry in May. Here is what she has posted on her blog:

May is for 5 Line Poetry

Seems like everything has its own special month, doesn’t it? There’s one for novel writing, haiku, poetry (in general), cards/letters…so why not one for five line poetry like gogyohka, tanka, cinquain, pentastich, etc.? I think five line forms are beautiful. They are smart and succinct. They deserve some recognition and appreciation.

This May 2011, let’s start an international five line poetry month. Why not? Let’s write one poem every day in May. A friend pointed out to me that May is also Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, so writing Japanese form poetry goes right along with that theme.

You can put your poems on your blog. You can post them at .   Gogyohka Junction. You can write them on Twitter and use the tag  .  #5lines  .  to show you are participating. (Yes, I’m the person who started that tag.) The most important thing is to write five line poetry and enjoy yourself.

During the month, I’ll collect some of my favorites and post them here on my blog. Please join me!
