all my life i  have stayed awake from dusk  ’til dawn
for all my life i  have been in love with the Moon

all my life has been spent separate from humanity
for all my life i  have been devoted to Her alone

at night
when the world is quiet
while others sleep
i  talk with the Moon

no,  i  must admit…   i  talk  to  the Moon
for Her only response is a howl upon the wind

moonbeams drift in through the open window
but dance just beyond my reach

i  send my adoring thoughts to Her
on stars that shoot across the sky
no answer ever comes
Her only response is a howl upon the wind

i  see Her looking down upon me
though She pretends to notice naught

She knows i  am hopelessly moonstruck
of  that i  am quite certain

i  whisper sweet nothings to Her
i  sing tender songs of  love
i  promise my heart to Her for all eternity
but Her only response is a howl upon the wind

now my life is coming to its end
a life filled with a fool’s dreams

in my desperation
i  stand naked,  howling at the Moon

at long last She embraces me
and carries my soul home to Her forever

“Moondance”   Michael Buble

lyrics ~

Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
‘Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I’m trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

Well, I want to make love to you tonight
I can’t wait ’til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you’re never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can’t hide

Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

Well, it’s a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
‘Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I’m trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night’s magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush
One more moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Can’t I just have one more dance with you my love

  1. did you see the moon last night…
    wow….super bright…almost a star in the heavens.
i stood on the back porch just looking upon her
    for quite some time

  2. Magical, dani–great refrain, too. The Moon is indeed a harsh mistress, but in this, a gracious one in the end.

  3. How Providence can be a salvation where one pines on the impossible where the response is contrary to what one desires. Great write!

  4. Beautiful poem at the time of another “Super Moon”.

Thank you dani ♥ for sharing another of your Lovely poems with us.

  5. That so reminded me of the feeling I would get reading the Owl and the Pussycat, not in form or subject but in the goose flesh I got while reading it because it flowed like a magic carpet ride. The refrains perfectly placed for an effect that was dream like and ethereal. Crazy good, I am so glad you wrote for the prompt. I appreciate it a lot, thanks.

  6. The pull of the moon gotcha girl. Good stuff!

  7. I love the way you have presented the relationship between the speaker and the moon. This is haunting in its intensity.

  8. dani,
I love what you have done here-
Your verse haunts and intrigues-what a glorious ending! I too love your convo with the moon~ We are suppose to have an amazing view in August- ;D

Sounds so good, your “At Night” poem. I liked the part,
moonbeams drift in through the open window
but dance just beyond my reach
    ,” as I often have
the moon waking me up (gently) as she shines through
a transom over my door to the porch.
The transom window is not pierced but the beams are
right on my pillow. There is no way to stop them.
