First Fig
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!

they whirl on toes
with heads thrown back
as though entranced
weaving through the candles
without looking where they step
if they get burned
we who watch do not know
what magic do they have
that allows them
to dance wildly
among the flames?
i wish to be a candle dancer
to lose myself so completely
that even fire
cannot consume me

I do think that dancing between flames would be exciting as well as dangerous….as well as definitely a way that one could lose oneself, but it would take skill certainly to avoid getting burnt. Nice poem, Dani.
thank you so much, Mary! ♥ i appreciate your visit and kind comment.
Nothing could stop you, Poet Sis. And if you get in a jam, why, certainly a magical dolphin would appear to carry you to safety! ;-)
{giggle} i didn’t think about that! ♥
I like this version too Dani. It would be lovely to be so absorbed that even flame could not consume us. The ultimate strength perhaps.
thank you, Peggy! ♥ sorry about losing your earlier comment.
ha this is enchanting, where even the flames can not harm me…its easy for me to see them dancing in the flames….
aw! thank you, Brian! you really are too kind. i hope you’re feeling much better by now and that you have a good week! {isn’t that a fabulous painting?}
would love to dance with such abandon! great poems!
thank you very much, Robyn! ♥ happy happy new year!
