i’m looking at you
trying to see inside your soul
wondering…
do i really see you?
do i see the real you?
or are you just a figment of my imagination?
the ethereal object of my obsession?
made from the heat of my desire?
born in the fires of my passion?
living only in my longing …yearning
…needing so desperately for someone to hold me
…desire me …love me
are you even here?

“I’m Looking Through You” The Beatles
lyrics ~
I’m looking through you, where did you go
I thought I knew you, what did I know
You don’t look different, but you have changed
I’m looking through you, you’re not the same
Your lips are moving, I cannot hear
Your voice is soothing, but the words aren’t clear
You don’t sound different, I’ve learned the game.
I’m looking through you, you’re not the same
Why, tell me why, did you not treat me right?
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight
You’re thinking of me, the same old way
You were above me, but not today
The only difference is you’re down there
I’m looking through you, and you’re nowhere
Why, tell me why, did you not treat me right?
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight
I’m looking through you, where did you go
I thought I knew you, what did I know
You don’t look different, but you have changed
I’m looking through you, you’re not the same
Yeah! Oh baby you changed!
Aah! I’m looking through you!
Yeah! I’m looking through you!
You changed, you changed, you changed!

That’s a very important question…and can be quite philosophical too. I think it’s not uncommon at all to fall in love with someone who doesn’t actually exist, but that we have largely constructed in our imagination.
i think that can happen quite easily, especially if we want to be “in love.” thank you for your visit and comment, Mary! ♥
that last line kinda cinches the heart a bit…are you even here….painful to think about, but i love your verse…i think we all want to be known and to know…to truly be seen…
i think so, too. thanks so much for stopping by, Brian!
Hard to know what / who is real or not sometimes, I think. Even when we think about ourselves. “Real” is a hard word to come to terms with.
that’s so true! ♥
