she couldn’t look at him…
wouldn’t let him see her cry
“it’s not you…
i just can’t stay any longer”
he started to reach out to touch her…
knew it wouldn’t help
“when somebody loves you
their promises are supposed to
mean something”
“i’m sorry”
and with that,
she turned
and walked out the door

lyrics ~
You know I’m not one to break promises
I don’t want to hurt you but I need to breathe
At the end of it all, you’re still my best friend
But there’s something inside that I need to release
Which way is right, which way is wrong
How do I say that I need to move on
You know we’re headed separate ways
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There’s nothing I can really say
I can’t lie no more, I can’t hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I’ll be on my way
You gave me more that I can return
Yet there’s so much that you deserve
Nothing to say, nothing to do,
I’ve nothing to give
I must leave without you
You know we’re headed separate ways
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There’s nothing I can really say
I can’t lie no more, I can’t hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I’ll be on my way
So I’ll be on my way
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
There’s nothing that I can really say
I can’t lie no more, I can’t hide no more
Got to be true to myself
And it feels like I am just too close to love you
So I’ll be on my way
So I’ll be on my way
So I’ll be on my way

It’s perfect, Sista Poet! It’s really true to my movie theme. I feel like there is a whole backstory here and wonder what it is that has made her have to say goodbye. I say “have to” cos it feels to me like something she doesn’t really want to do, but feels she must.
I’m so glad you did my FBF challenge, sis, and that you are first! Wowee!
thank you, SP! ♥
they are supposed to but….well it just does not quite work out that way always
sometimes promises are made with the best of intentions then life gets in the way…
true that….when promises dont mean much though it hurts pretty deep….
affairs of the heart hurt the deepest…
And that’s what love does, doesn’t it… leave us wide open to be hurt but, if it’s real, (to me) it has to be so worth it. Lovely write Dani
thank you, Bren! ♥
Totally agree that is a song about a total selfish bastard or bitch if it was a female writing it. I think the line about “You gave me more than I can return” says it was a one sided relationship and the selfish person must have sucked the giving person until they could give no more. So if I was the person who the selfish person was leaving then I think I would be down on my knees praising the Lord that I would no longer have to try and make that person love who could only love themselves. Life is too short to waste it on a selfish a-hole who has no sense to appreciate what they are given.
This is a really nice one for the Promises Theme Thursday post. Thanks so much.
God bless.
thank you! ♥ i enjoy your prompts.
This may be short, but it’s a whole movie in and of itself, a scene that’s probably essential to any chick flick and to many, many love stories as well.Sometimes a girl’s gotta do what she’s gotta do.
so true! thanks for stopping by, Joy! ♥
Sometimes that’s what needs to be done.
who knows what led up to her leaving? thanks for stopping by, Laurie! ♥
A lovely sad love story. Like your form of writing. Awesome 55!

thank you, Susie! ♥ i’ve been wanting to write something to go with the song since i first heard it.
Oh, yes, the flipside of love that also can leave one breathless. Captured well, Dani!
thank you so much, Hannah! ♥
a very subtle take on this prompt….enjoyed…

“when somebody loves you

That’s a true story right there.
it is! it is! thanks for stopping by, Kerry! ♥
Good one, Dani!
thank you so much, Mary! ♥
Love the image of woman as ‘knowing what she has to do.’ I have been that woman, nicely done, Dani.
thank you, Helen! ♥ i appreciate your visit and kind comment.
At first I thought it was he that cheated… but with the “it’s not you…” makes me think it was she that cheated! That puts a bit of a twist on the classic “he done me wrong” scenario. :)
i’m not sure who did what leading up to this point. {smile} thanks for stopping by, margaret! ♥
I love the visual presentation. It’s sort of like a Pac-Man mouth or a less-than mathematical symbol, either suggesting additional meaning.
i love the image! like you, i think it can have more than one meaning. thank you for your visit! ♥
I can hear the footsteps walking away…..great writing! :-)
thank you, Carrie! ♥ you’re very kind!
Too bad ~ Wishing you happy weekend Dani ~
i like your attitude, Heaven! {smile} hope all is well with you! ♥
wow, if Alex Clare sounds to you like a selfish, self-centred bastard … I wonder what you’d think of me.
I love the colours of your website though :)
thank you for your comment on the site colors. i have a policy not to judge other women {unless you’re my mother} with hopes that they won’t judge me either. i don’t mind criticizing men, though. {smile} thanks for stopping by, Jessica. ♥
